THE CHALLENGING CBC ASSESSMENT

It has been barely four years since the new Competence  Based Curriculum (CBC) was officially rolled out by the Ministry of Education with motive of developing relevant skills required for day to day life among learners and unlock their full potential  .The CBC which consist of 2-6-3-3 system of education was implemented  to replace the 8-4-4 system of education which has served Kenya for  more than 30 good years. The introduction of 2-6-3-3  has so far been  received with a lot of attention, anxiety and different reactions from parents and Kenyans  despite the cabinet secretary of Education Prof Geoge Magoha  assuring Kenyans CBC is here to stay , reiterating that CBC focuses on flexibility in learning and placing the learner at the center of the learning process than the teachers

The parents  say they are forced to go deep in their pockets to buy the learning materials  and paying school fees as well , taming  to be more expensive and burden to them  unlike the 8-4-4 system ,Meanwhile teachers on the other hand have raised concern on new  the New Competency Based Assessments  for grade 3,4 and 5 which is currently in progress , According to CBC teachers, The assessment has come with more task on teachers and responsibilities  as teachers have to download the assessment from the Kenya National Examination Council  [KNEC] portal and upload the pupils results on the portal at the end of the assessment bearing in mind other schools in rural area which totally  lucks electricity power not to mention  bundles  that is suppose to be use to feed information on learners portal .The teachers have also compliment on learners getting tested on questions  without multiple choices as this only favors  learners  who can read and write as the Assessment  requires  learner to be able read and understand question then provide the answer though the knowledge acquired in class and mainly through application and not necessarily multiple choices
